Depression

At Tender Health & Wellness, I understand that depression is more than simply feeling sad or having a bad day. It is a serious mental health condition that can affect how you think, feel, and function in daily life. Depression can drain your energy, make it difficult to focus, and take away interest in activities you once enjoyed. For some, it feels like an emotional heaviness; for others, it can be an empty numbness that makes it hard to connect with life.

Signs and Symptoms
Depression can look different for everyone. You may notice persistent sadness, hopelessness, or irritability. You might have changes in sleep — either sleeping too much or too little — as well as changes in appetite, energy levels, and concentration. Some people withdraw from friends and family, while others push through daily routines but feel emotionally disconnected. In severe cases, depression can lead to thoughts of self-harm or suicide, which require immediate attention and support.

Possible Causes
Depression can develop from a combination of factors, including genetics, brain chemistry, trauma, chronic stress, and significant life changes. It is not a sign of weakness, and it is not something you can simply “snap out of.” Depression is a medical condition that deserves compassion, understanding, and professional care.

My Approach to Treatment
When I work with someone experiencing depression, my goal is to create a safe, nonjudgmental space where you can openly share what you’re going through. Together, we explore the underlying causes, develop strategies to manage symptoms, and build a plan to support healing. I use evidence-based therapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and mindfulness techniques, and when appropriate, I can coordinate with medical providers about medication options. My focus is always on your unique needs, pace, and strengths.

A Path Toward Hope
Depression can make it hard to believe that things can improve, but recovery is possible. With the right help, you can experience relief, regain your sense of purpose, and reconnect with what matters most to you. If you are struggling, I am here to listen, support, and walk with you through this process. You do not have to face depression alone — we can take the first step together.
